    Where are you located?

4431 Mayfield Rd, South Euclid, OH 44121

We serve students from Mayfield, South Euclid, Cleveland, Richmond Heights, University Heights, Lyndhurst, and many other local areas from our South Euclid location with convenient class times for both kids and adults.

What should I wear to my first jujitsu class?

For your first class, comfortable athletic clothing (t-shirt and sweatpants/shorts) is perfect. Once you join, we'll help you get a traditional gi (uniform) for regular training.

How long does it take to earn a black belt in Japanese jujitsu?

Traditional jujitsu follows a structured ranking system. With consistent training 2-3 times per week, most students can achieve black belt in 4-6 years, though everyone progresses at their own pace.

What's the difference between Japanese jujitsu and Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ)?

Traditional Japanese jujitsu is a complete self-defense system that includes strikes, throws, and joint locks. Unlike BJJ which focuses primarily on ground fighting, our jujitsu program teaches standing techniques, defensive tactics, and practical self-defense for real-world situations.

    Is jujitsu effective for self-defense?

Yes! Japanese jujitsu was developed by samurai for real combat situations. Our program teaches practical techniques including escapes from grabs, defense against weapons, striking, and throwing techniques that work in actual self-defense scenarios.

What age can children start learning jujitsu?

We accept children as young as 6 in our Mayfield and South Euclid locations. Our kids jujitsu program focuses on discipline, respect, and age-appropriate self-defense techniques.

Will jujitsu help my child with bullying?

Absolutely. Traditional jujitsu teaches children confidence, awareness, and verbal de-escalation skills first. Physical self-defense techniques are taught responsibly as a last resort, giving kids the tools to handle bullying situations appropriately.

Do I need to be in shape to start jujitsu classes?

No prior fitness level is required. Our adult jujitsu classes in Cleveland accommodate all fitness levels, and you'll naturally build strength, flexibility, and endurance as you train.

How is traditional jujitsu different from MMA or other martial arts?

Jujitsu is a traditional martial art focusing on self-defense, discipline, and personal development. While MMA is sport-focused, our jujitsu emphasizes practical techniques, traditional values, and can be practiced safely well into your senior years.
